Sybil used to travel a lot, before stumbling upon the Shroudrose Teahouse. She found a place to call home here, accepting a job offer to work as a waitress for the teahouse. She absolutely loves her job, and she has met many nice people, though she still feels they’re mostly just acquaintances.

Backstory

When Sybil was a young girl, she was told that her parents were no longer able to take care of her, so they made the tough decision to surrender her to a friend living on the island of Thavnair. Given a new name, Sybil grew up in the city-state of Radz-at-Han with her adoptive father, Gladwin Chapman, a well-known merchant.
On the day of her 24th birthday, Sybil's father decided to take her to Limsa Lominsa. They had lunch and decided to do some sight-seeing outside of the city boundaries. However, as they made their way back to the city through Lower La Noscea, before they could make it to the Tempest Gate, they were ambushed by a monster. Her father told her to run, and so she did. She looked back at her father and saw the monster kill him. She continued to run, and eventually blacked out from shock, and hit her head when she fell. She woke up in Moraby Drydocks and was told she blacked out in The Salt Strand, and an unknown adventurer brought her to the shipyard. She never saw the adventurer again.
Alone, with some of her memory lost from the fall and with no way back to her homeland, she decided to make her way back to Limsa Lominsa to try and find a new home.
Sybil feels extremely guilty for her father's death. She feels that if she was stronger, she could have protected him, and he would still be alive. She vowed to become strong in order to never let something like that happen again. Remembering a hanging axe in her father's study, she decided to train using an axe in memory of him. Not being 100% comfortable using an axe, she decided to just use her kindness and love to help protect and take care of others.
Traveling city to city had become quite tiresome for Sybil, and she realized she was running low on gil. Wandering the Lavender Beds one night, she stumbled upon a beautiful establishment known as the Shroudrose Teahouse. After spending a few nights as a guest in the teahouse, Sybil decided to inquire about a job. Sybil was hired as a waitress and is currently working at the teahouse in exchange for a room to stay in. Finally, she had found a home that was a bit more permanent.

I just wandered into a really pretty placed called The Morning Star Cafe. I could smell coffee, and I really wanted one. I walked in and spoke to a nice gentleman at the door, and he asked me to check my weapon. I got too nervous to give it to him, so I found a secret place outside and hid it. I'm currently sitting on a couch upstairs by myself.
There's a nice boy on the couch now. It looks like he's about to talk to -
Okay, I'm back. I just grabbed my weapon, and I'm outside now. I met 2 people named Kati and Boony! They let me share the couch with them, even though they looked like they were discussing business. I think they might have been making a list of games for them to play later. They told me they were married. They were really nice.
---
I'm writing this as I'm sitting on the dock. So, after I left earlier, I went to the Azure Cafe. I met a nice waiter named Stabby and a man named Ra'shevrah Tia. He was kinda mysterious.. BUT SUPER NICE. He said he worked in Ishgard. I told him he was super strong, but he disagreed.
Stabby gave me really good advice. He said to do "a little each day" and I'll get to where I want to be..
I miss daddy so much..
BUT GET THIS: I TOUCHED A DRAGON SCALE TODAY. Shevvy gave me one and told me to give it to his friend. Her name was Ninifa Nifa. I think she was some kind of investigator. She was really cool, but kinda intimidating..
They talked about something called The Grindstone? Maybe it's something you use to sharpen weapons.. Idk.
Shevvy was also talking about some kind of gun or something. He seems to need a gun to complete some sort of challenge? Idk, but he said he had a lot to learn. But later, Shevvy and I went to the library. A nice person who worked at the cafe let me borrow a book. The book was called "Axes and You: For Beginners". I'm so excited to read this. (I hope I remember to bring it back.) Oh well, I'm going to sleep now. I'm really tired. I'll write more tomorrow!

OMG TONIGHT WAS SO FUN. I MET SILVEY! I was doodling by the fire downstairs at The Shroudrose Teahouse and Tavern.. It smelled SO GOOD and I overheard someone say that there was a show or something, so I decided to go inside.. There was a beautiful lady working there. I heard someone else talking about how they possibly needed more staff.. I don't know.. I probably should see if I would be of any help to them.. But I don't know what I could do for them.. I'm too clumsy and I might mess up someone's order..
I'll think about that later. ANYWAY-
I met Silvey and he seemed so nice. Someone else came in later and was talking to him, and then I got really sleepy, so I decided to leave early. I didn't want to interrupt them. Obviously he was meeting him there. I think his friend was going to perform. I wish I would have stayed, but it would have been rude if I fell asleep. Also, do you think Silvey got mad at me for calling him that? But I give people the cutest nicknames! Heheeeee. Oh well, I hope I see Silvey again someday..
---
I've been thinking.. I keep wandering around at night and finding different cafes to try, and different things to pass the time.. I'm never going to find a friend like that. So.. this is how loneliness really feels, huh? I want to feel needed so bad..
..
..
What should I do?

I JUST HAD THE BEST SANDWICH
---
I got a new axe today. I've been reading that book and learning a lot. I'm thinking of you, daddy.

29th Sun of the 3rd Umbral Moon
Today I decided to go adventuring. I stumbled into an extremely snowy area that was so beautiful. I asked an adventurer what this area was called, and they informed me that we were in the Coerthas Central Highlands. I can’t believe how pretty this place is!
I met a man named Ludovoix at the entrance of a place called House Durendaire, and after finding his friend and saving him, they let me go inside to warm up. I think I’ll finish writing this and then head back to Gridania because I’m extremely cold.

31st Sun of the 3rd Umbral Moon
I found my way to this beautiful place called The Shroudrose Teahouse. It’s so cute inside! There was a super pretty girl greeting at the door. I think she maybe owns this place? Hmm.. Well, I decided to order a fruit tea because it sounded good, and I’m really thirsty. Whatever music is playing in here is really nice and soothing. OH! They had a fish tank! It was SO CUTE! AND SO BIG! I couldn’t really see it, so I had to get on top of the stairs to look at it, but it was so cute. I named one of the fish Swimmy. I don’t remember which one it was though. Oh well.
There’s a person at the table next to me eating so many sweets and cakes. I wasn’t too hungry, so I didn’t get anything to eat.. I might later, though.
This tea is so so good! It’s really fruity. It tastes like pineapple with a hint of something else that I can’t put my finger on. My waitress was SO CUTE, TOO! I have always thought about trying to find work around here. I’m starting to run out of gil.. Am I too clumsy to be a waitress? Hmm..
That Lalafell sitting at the table next to me was causing some sort of commotion. I think they ordered more cakes. Hehe. – Actually, I think they might be in some kind of trouble.
I figured it out! The one I named Swimmy was a big fat white one with spots on his back!
I decided to buy a Rolanberry shortcake.
A Lalafell named Vinalo Mabunalo asked if he could sit next to me. He told me he was a botanist. He told me his friend liked hot cocoa with mint, and that’s all I can think about now. We split the shortcake!
Oh my gosh. I just ran out of the teahouse so fast.. The owner – I’m not sure what her name is, but she’s so beautiful and confident and radiant, and I want to work there! I really do! But I just couldn’t find the courage to ask if they were hiring. I’ll just come back sometime soon and see if I can gather the courage to talk to her.. But for now, it’s bedtime. I’m almost out of money.. I’m not going to be able to survive on this remaining gil for much longer..

4th Sun of the 4th Astral Moon
So, I’m currently sitting on a rock on the beach in Mist. I had this super vivid dream last night about me working as a waitress, and I literally spilled hot coffee all over a customer. I’m not sure I’m cut out for serving..
Sitting here, I can hear someone shouting about lemonade and snow cones. I am a bit thirsty, being out here in the hot sun. I think I might go get a lemonade! I’ll write more later! x
-
I found a bench, and I decided to sit here and observe the other people for a while. I feel like there are so many people.. I’ll probably get lost in the crowd.
-
Well, that was easy. Sitting on the bench, a cute girl came and brought me some water. She didn’t want me to pay her anything, but I paid her anyway. I think I’m going to go down to the beach.. I overheard a bunch of people were going down there. Maybe I’ll find someone to talk to, hehe.
-
Ugh, my journal got wet from the rain. Literally as I wrote I was going down to the beach, it started to rain. I found a big umbrella thingie to sit under, though. Hehe. I don’t think I’m going to find anyone to talk to, so I might just doodle for a bit.
-
A really nice lady in a hat let me sit under a different umbrella thingie with her and her friends. She said she didn’t work there, but she was a regular. Her name was Nova. She was so pretty!! Anyway, I'm getting sleepy, so I'll write more later!
goodnight x

6th Sun of the 4th Astral Moon
I decided to stop by the Shroudrose Teahouse again. I ordered a lavender macaron! I can’t wait to try it! I saw Vinalo again~ They were with their friend Papari tonight. They said they weren’t done with the book yet, but they promised I’d still get an autographed copy of it! I’m so excited for it.
//// VINALO OWES ME A SIGNED COPY OF THEIR BOOK ////
I literally just ran out of the teahouse. They probably think I'm crazy.. Idk if they saw me crying or not, but ugh. Papari said she has devices that could help protect me when leaving cities. I ran as fast as I could and found my stash of gil where I hid it. I don’t know how much she charges for these devices, but I could use anything I can get my hands on..
I needed a second to stop crying and to calm down, so I decided to sit outside the teahouse and write this before I went back in.
Can I possibly avenge my father? I wonder if any of the devices will make me strong enough to kill that sea dragon..

6th Sun of the 4th Astral Moon (Contd.)
Okay, tonight definitely didn’t go how I thought it would go. First of all, I’m pretty sure I made Vinalo super uncomfortable. I tried to hug them, and they got upset. I feel so stupid. Secondly, Papari said that she didn’t know if any of her devices will help me with hunting that monster if I’m not already fully prepared to slay it. I guess I got too excited.. I promised them both that I would take my training seriously and not go after the monster if I wasn’t ready.. which I’m definitely not. I see that now.
In order for me to be able to train, I HAVE to find somewhere to live. I’m really running out of gil, now. I have to find a place to stay. That’s where the weirdest part of the night comes in. I randomly got the courage to ask Faye Covington, the owner of the Shroudrose Teahouse, if she was hiring any more help, and she said she was! I’m so relieved.. I need to get some gil together in order to find a more permanent place to live. After that, I’ll do my best to train in order to avenge my father.. But for now.. I’ll do my best to train as a waitress! Wish me luck! .. Who am I talking to, myself? Anyway, I’ll write more later!

20th Sun of the 4th Astral Moon
OKAY. I know what you're thinking. I haven't written in here in, like, forever. BUT I HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE!
I was reading. Like, a lot. I remembered that I still have a book that I never returned. Oops. So, I read the whole thing. And now I feel like I have a better grip on how to use an axe.
Also, I have my first shift as a waitress tonight. Um, I don't have any cute clothes or anything.. So I wonder if I'll get in trouble if I just wear what I have on now.. Wish me luck!
So I just got done with work! It was my first shift.. and it went so good!! I'm so happy~ Pretty much everyone was so nice! There were a couple strange interactions, though.. Like one lady asked about us cooking her own raw shrimp.. And the cute girl who was taking orders with me got sick. I think she might have been pregnant.. BUT, then that same person asked about a buch of people and I didn't know what to say because I hardly know anyone yet.. Idk, it was a bit strange. Then two guys came up to me winking and asking about alcohol.. and they kept saying everything in quotes.. like "cake" and "tea" meant secret things.. Hehe, it was so strange. But I had a great first day!!

3rd Sun of the 4th Umbral Moon
Oh my goodnessssss. I'm sitting in the teahouse on my break. HA. Speaking of breaks.. I broke a plate. I'm pretty sure the entire teahouse heard me in the kitchen. I cut my ankle, so I had to run out of there and change my outfit. I soaked my tights in cold water, and that's where they are right now. I have to get back to work soon, but I figured I would write in here before I forget everything that happened. I met a new employee today, I think her name was C'leyla, but I don't know if I heard that right. There was also a man named Greyson and he was very nice when I broke the dish. Everyone has been so friendly to me, and for that, I'm eternally grateful.

20th Sun of the 4th Umbral Moon
I helped out today at the Fiesta Cove beach party in Costa del Sol by handing out desserts to the guests! This event was a collaboration with Wonderfaire, and they were very nice! There were lots of other yummy foods, but I handed out Bubble Chocolate, Pearl Chocolate, Coffee Biscuits, and Rolanberry Shaved Ice at the event! It was so fun. I was with Charlotte, Faye, and Mibs. Mibs was saying hilarious things, and they all made me laugh. The person in charge of Wonderfaire’s name was Grei, and he was very nice! I love working with Shroudrose Teahouse so much. I also got to watch Charlotte dance a bunch! She’s so good at dancing.

22nd Sun of the 4th Umbral Moon
I heard about a pool party being hosted by a person named Atlas. It was happening in the front yard of our Teahouse, so I decided to check it out, even though I don’t know too many people, other than the people from work. The pool was super cute. I decided to sit nearby on a long chair shaded by an umbrella. A really nice guy named Mr. Boba invited me to sit with him. He said he just came back from a leave from somewhere. Atlas gave us a slice of melon, but he only had one. Mr. Boba told me I could have it. He’s so nice. He also made me a bracelet. It’s made of flowers. I’m so grateful to have met a new friend! I’ll treasure this bracelet forever and never take it off!

Vinalo Mabunalo (Good friend)
Sybil met Vinalo as a guest in the teahouse. Vinalo promised Sybil a signed copy of their upcoming book! Sybil always looks forward to seeing Vinalo at Teatime.

Elyn Merielle (Co-worker)
Sybil met Elyn during her first shift at the teahouse. She’s always extremely friendly and helpful to Sybil, but sometimes seems to slack off. Sybil finds Elyn extremely funny to be around.

Lalalun Lalun (Co-worker)
Sybil works with Lalalun sometimes during teatime. She’s always adorable and sweet to Sybil, making them fast friends.

Faye Covington (Boss)
Miss Faye offered Sybil a job, and Sybil is extremely grateful for the opportunity to work for her. Faye doesn’t realize how much it means to Sybil to be allowed to live at the teahouse. Sybil finds Miss Faye extremely beautiful and extremely intimidating, although she’s been nothing but sweet to Sybil.

Snow Whitt (Ex-boyfriend and Co-worker)
Sybil met Snow one night during Happy Hour at the teahouse. They both sat near the blazing fire and talked for a while. Snow has definitely been through some things that Sybil couldn’t ever imagine, and seems to not think himself worthy of love and kindness. However, on the 2nd Sun of the 5th Umbral Moon Snow confessed his love to Sybil, and they decided to become each other's happiness. Snow was gone a lot, however, and Sybil had been struggling with her feelings of loneliness again. She sent him a letter explaining her feelings, and she broke things off, still loving him and wishing him the best.

Ryatt Duneraven (Former co-worker and Sybil’s Shoulder-Devil)
Sybil thinks of Ryatt as her drunken older brother. He always makes her laugh. Ryatt offered Sybil bourbon during one of her shifts, and without thinking, she drank it on the job. She feels extremely guilty because of this. Sybil tends to start panicking when Ryatt enters a room. She really looks up to him, even though she’s not 100% why.

Talha Olobi (Former co-worker and Extremely Good Friend)
Sybil and Talha met at the Shroudrose Teahouse. Talha solved the Airell mystery and saved her, making the two friends extremely close. Sybil trusts Talha more than anyone in her life.

Ramius Raske (Good friend)
Sybil met Ramius one day in the teahouse as he was checking the teahouse's security system he had installed. She shared with him her love of traveling and her wish to see Kugane with her own two eyes. He showed her how to travel there with ease, and they spent a wonderful day in the hot springs together, getting to know one another. He started showing interest in getting to know her a bit more, and Sybil is extremely happy about that.

Holiday shadows

Sybil was attending the Shroudrose Teahouse’s Happy Hour during the season of All Saint’s Wake. She got really thirsty, and instead of wanting to wait at the bar for a glass of water, she decided to go upstairs to the kitchen to grab a drink. As she walked back downstairs, she felt herself kick something on the landing of the staircase. She picked it up and immediately grabbed Talha to report the item. The item was a small and extremely sharp dagger. She told Talha that she didn’t see anything else, but she would keep an eye out for anything else. Customers know that weapons are not permitted inside the Shroudrose Teahouse.

During the next Teatime, Sybil was working her shift as usual. At the end of her shift, on her way back to her room, she saw that there was something hiding in the plants near the entrance. It was a folded note. When she opened the note, she screamed. The note stated in black letters, YOU KILLED HIM, NOW I KILL YOU. Luckily, Yen’to was working that night, and he took the note, saying he would look into it. Not knowing if the two incidents were connected, Sybil feels like something is amiss.

Talha and Sybil were talking in the basement of the teahouse when they found a snow globe that was given to Sybil as a child. It was broken with sanded down edges. This snow globe was from Sybil's childhood, and she left it back in Radz-at-Han. They don't know how or why it was hidden in a toybox at the teahouse. Sybil said she will always make sure to lock her door, now wondering if she is the target.

SPOILERS
The culprit ended up being Sybil's sister, Airell Little. Sybil's father had had a biological daughter years before he had adopted Sybil. He wasn't aware of the child because Airell's mother kept her a secret from him. As Airell got older, her mother abandoned her, and had to fend for herself. She decided to look for her father, and after hearing about what happened to him, she blamed and decided to get revenge on Sybil for his death. Eventually Airell kidnapped her and kept her inside a lighthouse she broke into. Talha eventually found Sybil and Airell ran away. She hasn't been seen since. However, Sybil forgives her, knowing that Airell just wanted to feel accepted, loved, and happy. Sybil hopes she gets the chance to see Airell again to show her that she isn't alone.

As Sybil twirled in the falling snow on the road near The Forgotten Knight, she noticed a shiny golden flyer waving in the air pinned on the Clan Hunt Board.
Is this a special hunt? she thought to herself as she took it off of the board. Normally, Sybil wouldn’t partake in hunts that were posted here in Ishgard. They were usually too hard for her to complete on her own, and she didn’t want to get in the way of others, either. She looked closer at the flyer:

NEEDED: A FEW JOLLY SOULS TO SING FOR OUR LESS FORTUNATE
WHERE: THE BRUME
SEE BAMPONCET INSIDE FOR DETAILS

Sybil widened her eyes. I love to sing! And to sing for the people of the Brume? I can do that! She smiled and entered the Inn in search of Bamponcet.
“Hello, and welcome to the Forgotten Knight. Would you like to retire to an inn room?” the Elezen man at the counter asked with a polite smile.
“Actually, I’m looking for a man named Bamponcet. I found his flyer outside, and I would like to help out,” Sybil responded, equally as polite.
“Oh! That’s wonderful! Well, you’ve found me! I’m Bamponcet, and that was my flyer you found. Thank you so much for inquiring; I was beginning to think no one would help out. We are looking for someone to sing Starlight Celebration-esque songs to the less fortunate souls of Ishgard every night until the Starlight Celebration is over.” He reached under the counter and pulled out a thin booklet. “Here you are,” he said as he handed it to Sybil.
“What’s this?” she asked as she opened to the first page.
“Read for yourself!” Bamponcet exclaimed. “What do you think?!”
Sybil looked down at the pages and saw they were pages of sheet music. “Oh, I see!” She cleared her throat, closed her eyes, and began to sing:

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay
From now on our troubles will be miles away

Sybil took a deep breath and opened her eyes. “Oh, Mr. Bamponcet, this is a beautiful song! Did you write this yourself?”
Bamponcet beamed at Sybil. “I did not, dear! This mysterious book of songs was left in one of our Inn rooms by a guest! We tried to return it but had no luck. There are many songs in there that are just as beautiful, and that I have never heard before! I think these would cheer up the people of the Brume greatly, don’t you?!”
Sybil nodded. “I’ll go get started right away!”
